3.2 Conveyor. The conveyor belt shall be a minimum 2-ply, non-slip rubber with only one lace joint. The conveyor shall have a reversible motor with infinite variable speed control from 40 feet per minute (fpm) to 90 (fpm) in each direction under full load of 1000 pounds. The conveyor belt shall have an over-center valve to prevent belt runaway under load. Automatic belt aligners and non-slip pulleys shall be provided, these shall be surface treated to prevent corrosion. A permanently mounted control station shall be mounted at the left rear, and a removable remote control, with minimum 10 foot length extension cable, shall be located at the left front. Both control stations shall be continually active at any conveyor position. The conveyor elevating mechanism shall be capable of raising and lowering the conveyor at rated capacity from 39 to 132 inches at the front and 22 to 52 inches at the rear. Minimum seven inch outside diameter weather resistant rubber bumpers, located at the front and rear of the conveyor, shall be provided. Positive locking maintenance stands and guide rails shall also be provided.
3.3 Neutral start switch and starter lockout. The vehicle electrical system shall be designed to prevent engaging the starter while the engine is operating, and when the transmission is in any position except neutral.
3.4 Electrical system. A 12 volt vehicle electrical system shall be furnished and have sufficient capacity to operate all electrical components simultaneously without battery discharge. The electrical system shall consist of all electrical components necessary for operation of the vehicle and conveyor. There shall be sufficient electrical grounding to prevent static discharge. All circuits shall be protected by circuit breakers and guarded from environmental conditions. Each circuit breaker shall be labeled and readily accessible. At least one maintenance free battery shall be provided and mounted in a readily accessible and protected area.
3.5 Hydraulic system. The hydraulic system shall consist of all hydraulic components necessary for operation of the vehicle, including filter(s), drier(s) and strainer(s). The vehicle shall be designed so that hydraulic fluid does not exceed 100° F above the ambient temperature during all operations, or temperature recommended by the manufacturer. All hydraulic lift cylinders shall incorporate safety check valves.
3.6 Vehicle lighting. Headlights, brake lights, backup lights, and rear work light shall be provided. All lighting and control switches shall be designed for all weather operation. All lighting and reflectors mounted on vertical surfaces shall be flush or recessed to preclude damage.
3.7 Backup alarm. An audible backup alarm shall be furnished.
3.8 Electromagnetic interference (EMI). The forklift shall comply with the EMI requirements shown in Table I.
