TYPE DESCRIPTION
E Electric, minimum safeguards.
EE Electric motors and all other equipment completely enclosed.
EX Electrical fittings and equipment designed, constructed, and assembled that the units may be used in certain atmospheres containing flammable vapors and dusts.
3.1.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (6.3) in accordance with 4.3.
3.2 Specification sheet. The individual item requirements shall be as specified herein and in accordance with the applicable specification sheets. In the event of any conflict between requirements of this specification and the specification sheets, the latter shall govern.
3.3 Recovered material. For the purpose of this requirement, recovered materials are those materials which have been collected from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as distinguished from virgin raw materials. The components, pieces and parts incorporated in the forklift may be newly fabricated from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, provided the forklift produced meets all other requirements of this specification. Used, rebuilt or remanufactured components, pieces and parts shall not be incorporated in the forklift.
3.3.1 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other unless protected against galvanic corrosion. Dissimilar metals and methods of protection are defined and detailed in MIL- STD-889.
3.3.2 Identification of materials and finishes. The contractor shall identify the specific material, material finish or treatment for use with component and subcomponent, and shall make information available upon request to the contracting officer or designated representative.
3.3.3 Material deterioration prevention and control. The forklift shall be fabricated from compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or treated to provide protection against the various forms of corrosion and deterioration that may be in any of the applicable operating and storage environments to which the forklift may be exposed.
3.4 Transportability. The trucks shall be capable of being transported by military or commercial trailers, trains, marine vessels, aircraft and must be capable of withstanding the impact forces encountered in shipment, without damage or permanent deformation. The trucks shall be equipped with tiedown or slinging provisions.
3.4.1 Tiedown provisions. The tiedown provisions shall conform to MIL- STD-209, class 2 or 3, type II equipment, and to MIL-STD-1791 for equipment restraint criteria. The tiedown provisions shall satisfactorily complete the pull testing as specified without weld failure, permanent deformation,
