4.2 Classification of inspections, evaluations, and demonstrations . Inspections, evaluations, and demonstrations shall be classified as follows:
a. First article truck inspection (see 4.3). b. Quality Conformance Inspection (see 4.5). c. Inspection of packaging (see 4.9).
4.3 First article truck inspection. Prior to production the manufacturer shall furnish one or more trucks (see 6.2), produced from production tooling for first article examination and test. The trucks and their components shall be compared with this document, published literature, calculations and test data to verify compliance with this specification. The truck shall then be subjected to examination and test as marked in column 1, table I and column 1, table II. The presence of one or more defects shall constitute failure of the inspection. Prior to tests and examination, the following shall be performed:
a. Service the truck with oils and greases and a fully charged battery specified herein and designated for use in the ambient temperature at which the test shall be conducted.
b. Conduct run-in as prescribed by manufacturer.
c. Set the hydraulic system relief pressure as specified by manufacturer and record. Any change made to this shall constitute failure of all tests.
d. Furnish a schedule of maintenance to be followed during all testing of the first produced truck. A list of special tools required to perform this maintenance shall also be provided.
e. Electrical adjustments to set the battery discharge rate to be made prior to start of first article testing. Any changes made after starting these tests shall constitute a failure to all first article tests.
