indicator light, fuel gage, engine run control, light switches, starter switch, airbrake pressure gage (if applicable), and any other instruments used. The engine run control and the starter switch may be provided on the steering column if that is standard for the commercial product. All gages, indicator lights, and switches shall be identified on the face of the gage in
accordance with SAE J1362 or as specified in 3.26. All gages shall be mounted flush and internally lighted.
3.19 Controls and instrumentation. Each control shall be provided with a position marking diagram on a plate as specified in 3.26, or embossed or depressed on or near the control. Markings for levers which control the lift, mechanism shall conform to ASME B 56.11.3. The diagrams shall be visible to the operator from a normal operating position. All controls for the truck shall be located in the operator's compartment. Electric controls and instrumentation shall be moisture and weather resistant. Mechanical push-pull remote controls, when furnished, shall be of the waterproof antifriction type, conforming to requirements for marine cables specified in SAE J917.
3.19.1 Light switches. A minimum of two light switches shall be furnished on the instrument panel. One switch shall control the forward floodlight(s)
as specified in 3.20.1 and taillight as specified in 3.20.2. One switch shall control the rear floodlight(s) as specified in 3.20.1.
3.19.2 Engine run control. An engine run control shall be furnished and shall be a key type. It shall have not less than two positions "on" and "off". The switch shall control the operation of monitors and of all electrical equipment except the horn. Two keys shall be furnished with each truck. A mechanical engine shutoff ray be furnished and shall be in addition to the emergency shutoff as specified. All keys shall be identical for every truck.
3.19.3 Electrical system monitor. A remote indicating ammeter or alternator indicator red light shall be furnished. The ammeter shall be of sufficient capacity to indicate variation in current supply or demand experienced by the truck, exclusive of starter requirements. The indicator light shall light when the alternator is not charging and the engine run- control is "on".
3.19.4 Engine oil pressure monitor. A remote indicating engine oil pressure gage and a low-pressure red indicator light shall be furnished. The indicator light shall be provided with a means to check operation of the light.
3.19.5 Engine coolant temperature monitor. A remote indicating engine coolant temperature gage or a high-temperature red indicator light shall be furnished. If an indicator light is furnished, means shall be provided to check operation of the light. The light shall come "on" when the engine coolant temperature exceeds the temperature specified by the engine manufacturer.
3.19.6 Transmission temperature monitor. A remote indicating transmission temperature gage and a high-temperature red indicator light shall be
furnished. Means shall be provided to check operation of the light. The light shall come "on" when the transmission temperature exceeds the temperature specified by the transmission manufacturer.
