TEST METHOD NO. 5

SLOPE ASCENSION

1. Test Course:

Tilt table or ramp.

2. Test Procedures:

a. Drive truck forward with rated load along horizontal approach and onto ramp of specified percent grade and bring to complete stop. (All wheels supported on the slope.)

b. Release brakes and start from dead stop and proceed up ramp.

3. Optional Procedure:

a. Determine gross weight of truck with rated load (GVW).

b. Attach a tension dynamometer to the rear towing eye and to suitable ground anchor.

c. Put transmission in forward low range.

d. Accelerate engine until a minimum force equal to 30 percent GVW is obtained at the towing eye.
